Meeting in Brussels
di - activists discussed our future activities
Around 20 people joined our meeting in Brussels. In a relaxed but determined atmosphere we talked about the hot issue: How to go on with our work…
ECI: New focus necessary
We will of course continue our work to increase the level of citizens’ participation on the EU-level. Therefore, we will promote the idea on an immediate introduction of the European Citizens’ Initiative. In addition, we will evaluate together with other organizations like AEGEE the chances for a broad campaign.
How to proceed with Europe?
We developed a proposal to overcome the current EU crisis with a directly elected convention. This message will spread to MPs all over Europe. The final wording will be presented soon on our homepage.
More Democracy: to be revisited (again)
In May 2002 we described our ideas how to achieve more democracy in Europe. Amazingly, we have achieved a lot of the targets described in this paper. Now we prepare the second revision of this paper. On the meeting we discussed four points on the basis of an internal working paper:
1. Adapting citizen lawmaking to the ECI,
2. Facultative referendum,
3. Obligatory referendums and
4. Combination of direct democracy with the expansion of the rights of Parliament.
