6 countries – 6 places of remembrance – 12 Dome Talks

In a society increasingly characterised by polarising identities, voices critical of Europe and shrinking civil society space, the European Public Sphere created a common public space.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, the European Public Sphere went on its most extensive, truly European road trip, yet!

BULGARIA, CZECH REPUBLIK, DENMARK, GERMANY, POLAND, and ROMANIA – in summer 2021, 6 partners each organised one event in their country.

Strengthening acceptance, democracy and cohesion, each event took place at a public place of European remembrance.

The common denominator? The Europe Dome!

What did we do?

Inspired by the past, we discussed Europe’s future! Together, we established a connection between what has already been achieved and the EU’s tasks for the future.

Until spring 2022, our pan-European team of 6 partners analysed the material and formulated concrete proposals based on citizens’ input. In June 2022, we handed them over to EU policy makers in a special Catalogue of Ideas.

The Remember – Catalogue of Ideas is a final collection of citizens’ ideas from our 12 discussions under the Europe Dome in the six partner countries of the Remember project. Its impressive 30 pages cover a variety of topics at the heart of our common living together from democracy to LGBTQIA+ rights, values, youth, economy, media & communication and many more.

The content shows: Europeans are a fountain of ideas for a common, just, social, peaceful, educated, communicative, young, and democratic future in our shared home and beyond – if we manage to create a European public sphere which collects and spreads these ideas and wishes for Europe.

We’re looking forward to spreading the word and continue sharing these ideas with policy-makers across Europe!

If Winston Churchill were forced to use Twitter, I’m quite sure he would have lost the war. Not because he would not be able to make good Tweets, he would be, but he would not be able, I think, to suffer the permanent pressure of the public and the need for reaction. The government also needs time to react, and democratic institutions need time to react, while we live in a world where immediate response is the one that rules.

Maybe the Europe of regions would be the answer. Somehow people from different regions, they can find much more in common when they are talking about problems connected to their regions and their local surroundings.
