The Netherlands: website online, campaign next

24-03-2015

Democracy International's Dutch partner organisation Meer Democratie has a new website. At www.meerdemocratie.nl you find all news and campaigns for better rules of (direct) democracy in the Netherlands.

Meer Democratie was recently founded out of, among others, the Referendum Platform. Staff members are Niesco Dubbelboer and Arjen Nijeboer. The board is formed by Eisse Kalk, Erik Bout and Stephan Geuljans. Headquarters are in Amsterdam.

Next steps of the Dutch organisation are a campaign for opening up government appointments. Right now, almost all appointments in the Dutch government go to members of the established political parties. Meer Democratie advocates a new system that allows all Dutch citizens to get public positions such as mayor, provincial heads of government or a seat in the advisory councils of the government.

The website was developed with the support by Democracy International who provided the original template for the website. Staff members Cora Pfafferott and Andreas Müller helped with setting up the content management system and database. One central goal of Democracy International is to provide IT-support and know-how to young democracy groups.

The website is available online at www.meerdemocratie.nl .
