The qualification programme ASA

Do you want to work for globally sustainable development? Do you want to engage in international exchange and commitment? Participation in the ASA programme offers you all of this. In seminars and projects, you can exchange ideas with other young professionals on sustainable development issues. In return, you will receive one of 280 scholarships funded by the BMZ each year.

What is the ASA programme?

The ASA programme offers development policy exchange and engagement for students and people with vocational training. It includes a project phase of at least three months in countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and Southeast Europe, as well as seminars for preparation and follow-up. Engagement Global awards 280 scholarships annually for participation on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The ASA global format

Democracy International has been part of the ASA global format since 2021. In the global format, your project phase lasts six months and takes place first for three months in Germany and then for three months in a partner country. Currently, we - that is, you and your team - are working with varying partner countries, from Ukraine to Tunisia, Mexico and Botswana, on various democracy and participation projects. The projects usually start in April and end in September/October.

In addition, you will take part in Engagement Global seminars lasting several days. Here you will acquire further development policy expertise and learn about possible courses of action for global challenges. From project management to teamwork to conflict management: the seminars offer you a variety of learning experiences and accompany you through your project phase.

Would you like to become part of our team?

The application deadline for partner countries is typically in December, for participants in Germany in January. You can apply via the ASA page of Engagement Global: https://asa.engagement-global.de/applicants.html.

We are looking forward to meeting you!
