Dear Friends of the Global Forum,
In less than five months, we will all meet in Taiwan, the beautiful and vibrant democratic hotspot of East Asia. The 2019 Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy offers most exciting program since we started our global gatherings more than a decade ago.
Just imagine, as part of the briefing tour ahead of the Forum we will board a train at Taipei Main Station on Monday morning, but it will not be a regular train - we will be boarding the ”Taiwan Democracy Train”. In a scenic trip along the western shore of the 23-million-person island, we will be joined by Taiwanese and international democracy supporters.
From Monday 30 September until Wednesday 2 October, the Taiwan Democracy Train will make multiple stops along the way between Taipei and Kaohsiung, where we will meet with local activists and experts eager to share their democracy stories and to learn from ours. We are so proud to add this unique experience to an already strong line-up for the 2019 Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy and write you today with a very clear message: DO NOT MISS THIS ONCE-IN-A-LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY!
The Taiwan Democracy Train is an optional briefing tour ahead of the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy. Participation is free of charge, but it is necessary to register for the Taiwan Democracy Train separately, even if you have already registered for the Global Forum. Seating is limited and will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. You can find a detailed programme for the Taiwan Democracy Train briefing tour here.
The first tentative programme for the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy will soon be published here. Please be aware that you need to register for the Global Forum separately.
Travel arrangements
Before booking your free train ticket and registering for the Global Forum, you will have to make your travel arrangements to and from Taiwan. If you want to join us on the Taiwan Democracy Train, please do not arrive later than Sunday, 29 September. The train will be leaving from Taipei. We are also very excited to announce that the 2019 Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy will end with the official founding of the "International League of Democracy Cities" on Saturday 5 October, also in Taipei. We would therefore advise to book return flights to Taipei, and not Taichung, where the main programme will take place.
