Dear ,

Climate change, the fight against poverty, the COVID-19 pandemic – it’s never been so clear that global crises affect us all. At the same time, we don’t have the means for international democratic participation at the United Nations (UN). To counteract national isolation and mutual distrust, Democracy International and Democracy Without Borders are now mobilising for a UN World Citizens’ Initiative. And we need your support.

Many civil society organisations and political stakeholders worldwide have already started to take up our idea: 10 national missions at the UN joined the launch of the UNWCI in November 2019 in New York. Despite the campaign’s short existence, we have already gained 235 partner organisations from 63 countries, including Green Peace International and Avaaz.

Now is the time to build up pressure, expand the network, and make our concerns visible!

With your help, we want to continue gaining civil society partners – from Bulgaria to Panama, preferably in each member state of the UN. On 24 October 2021, the founding day of the UN, we will organise an international day of action. All partners will contact their political representatives and raise awareness for a UN World Citizens’ Initiative.

In 2021, two team members of Democracy International will be responsible for campaign planning, coordination of our partners and regular meetings. To enable everyone to independently support the idea of the UN World Citizens’ Initiative, we additionally need a multilingual campaign package.

The total costs for networking and the campaign package amount to 11.000€. So far we have been able to raise 6.000€ through our own resources and partner donations but 5.000€ are still missing. Today we ask for your support.

We are committed to an international community that works together as equals in finding solutions to the challenges of our time. Join our vision and help us with your donation.

Thank you and best wishes,
