Londeka studied at the University of the Witwaterstand in Johannesburg South Africa. She holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree majoring in Political studies and International Relations.

I feel like it was just yesterday that I officially started this journey on the Weltwärts programme me. One of the first challenges I faced was navigating the train system in Germany. But guess what? Over time, I've not only figured it out but also realised how surprisingly useful this skill has been throughout my travels across Europe. Who would have thought that conquering the intricacies of a foreign train schedule would empower me to explore various corners of this diverse continent? It's a testament to the rewards that come with perseverance and adapting to new environments.

Speaking of adapting, let's talk about food. Back home in South Africa, meat has been a staple in my diet for as long as I can remember. However, my time in Germany led to a profound shift in my relationship with meat. I discovered a new way of understanding food, embracing the concept of not having to consume meat every single day. Through exposure to different culinary traditions and a heightened awareness of sustainability, I've developed a healthier and more conscious approach to my eating habits. It's a reminder that growth often involves challenging our preconceptions and expanding our horizons.

Walking has also taken on a new significance in my life. The energetic pace of life in Köln, along with the city's pedestrian-friendly layout, has reshaped my attitude toward walking. In a society where walking and cycling are not just modes of transportation but also cherished lifestyle choices, I've found myself enjoying the simple act of strolling through the city streets. This change has had a positive impact on my well-being, reminding me of the importance of staying active and appreciating the world around us.

As my time with Democracy International comes to a close, I find myself looking back with so much gratitude. This year has been an incredible journey of personal and professional growth. My involvement with Democracy International has nurtured a sense of purpose that had been growing within me for years. It has reinforced my belief in the power of civil society to drive positive change and has connected me with like-minded individuals who share this vision.

I must take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to my Democracy International family. The support, mentorship, and friendship I've experienced here have been invaluable. Every step of this journey has been enriched by the passionate and dedicated individuals I've had the privilege to work with.

This opportunity, one that arose half a world away in Germany, has become a living example that dreams do come true. It serves as a constant reminder that curiosity, dedication, and a willingness to embrace change can lead to extraordinary experiences that shape us for a lifetime. As my time in Köln draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the journey so far. The experiences, friendships, and personal growth have been truly invaluable. But just like every great adventure, there's a bittersweet twist to this tale. As much as I'm excited to return to my home in South Africa, there's a tinge of sadness knowing that this chapter is coming to an end.

Experiencing Europe through the lens of Köln has broadened my horizons and provided me with memories that will last a lifetime. The friendships forged, the lessons learned, and the moments of personal discovery will forever hold a special place in my heart. It's not easy to bid farewell to the city that has become a part of my story, but I know that the experiences I've gained here will continue to shape my journey back home.

In a way, this bittersweet feeling encapsulates the essence of growth and change. We leave a piece of ourselves behind as we move forward, carrying the lessons and memories with us. While my time in Köln might be ending, my journey as a curious, politically engaged individual continues. And who knows what new adventures await me back in Pietermaritzburg?

So, dear readers, as I prepare to close this chapter and return to the familiar, I want to express my gratitude for your company on this journey. Thank you for being a part of my experiences. Until next time, keep exploring, keep learning, and keep cherishing every step of your own unique journey.

Warmest regards,
Londeka Mgwaba
