Raise the pressure for a more democratic UN

Help share our message on social media

The moment has arrived! For over a year we have been campaigning as the We The Peoples campaign to make the UN more inclusive and democratic. We are calling for three instruments: a UN World Citizens' Initiative, a UN Parliamentary Assembly and a UN Civil Society Champion.

The UN themselves agree that they need an urgent update. At the occasion of the UN’s 75th anniversary last year, Secretary-General Guterres organised discussions with over 1.5 million citizens in almost all countries. An astounding majority of them (97%) pointed out that the UN is too far from their lives and many called for innovative democratic solutions. As a result, the Member States asked Guterres to draft a roadmap for the future of the UN: the Our Common Agenda report.

In the coming days, UN Secretary-General Guterres will present this plan to the world. We need to make sure that is a clear starting sign for a new inclusive and democratic UN.

You can help us get the message out there! Use YOUR Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or any other channel to remind the UN and its Member States of their responsibility to “We the Peoples of the United Nations

We've created some suggestions for you to post. You can just copy the text below and post it on your social media feed, along with the image.

Secretary-General Guterres – Don’t waste this opportunity to set the stage for making the UN more democratic and inclusive!

When you present your roadmap for an upgraded UN in “Our Common Agenda”, remember that in your own consultations, citizens from every UN member state called on you to make the UN more democratic and to bring it closer to their lives.

You have presided over some of the most dire and globalised crises in human history. We are all affected, and we have never had a greater need for inclusive and democratic global governance.

We call on you to make “We the Peoples”- the promise of the UN Charter - a reality. We need a UN World Citizens’ Initiative, A UN Parliamentary Assembly and a UN Civil Society Envoy.
The time is now.
