Our fight goes on!

09-11-2015

Do you belong to the many people who have realised that we need to make work democracy in the EU? We are happy to celebrate a major victory with you: The European Parliament opted in favour of our proposals for a stronger EU Citizens' Initiative at the end of October. We cordially thank everybody for supporting our work.

Yet our fight continues.

We now need to convince the European Commission that it must accept what we have achieved so far. Please support us to pressure the EU Commission.

Thanks to the support by 76,397 people we have achieved a major step: On 28 October, the Members of the European Parliament overwhelmingly voted for a reform of the European Citizens’ Initiative to make it a stronger democracy instrument. The reforms included seven of nine demands for a more powerful ECI. Watch us delivering all signatures to the European Parliament in Strasbourg.*

Yet the battle for more democracy in the EU is not over! Now we need to take the next step: We need to convince the European Commission – as we successfully did with the Parliament. This is because the Commission has the power to simply reject initiatives coming from the Parliament.

Our campaign will now shift to second gear. We need to campaign again to demand immediate action by the Commission.

Unfortunately, our campaign budget has been exhausted by our efforts to win over the support of the Parliament. That's why we kindly ask you to help us raise 2500 Euros.

  •     We need to go to Brussels to speak with the key decision-makers in the Commission
  •     We have to meet with our alliance partners to plan and coordinate joint actions
  •     We want to run unconventional campaigns to persuade Commissioner Timmermans
  •     Our dedicated volunteers should be reimbursed for their support and their travel cost
  •     We need to travel around to pressure the national governments, as the Commission listens more to them rather than to the European Parliament.

We have come incredibly far, but we cannot lose energy now!

With your help, this can be a winning game. Even a 10 Euro donation will help make the difference.

The team of Democracy International cordially thanks you for your support!

* We handed over the signatures together with our partners Mehr Demokratie and WeMove.EU.
